The Thorlabs KT01 is a dedicated storage box for mounted Ø1" (25 mm) round optics, providing a safe and organized way to store optical components when they are not in use.

The box can accommodate up to 10 mounted optics, with each optic stored in an individual slot to help prevent components from contacting one another. It is specifically designed for optics housed in SM1-threaded mounts, making it suitable for many of Thorlabs' Ø1" mounted lenses and filters.

The KT01 is commonly used for storing mounted optical filters, including absorptive neutral-density filters and colored glass filters. Thorlabs also supplies the KT01 as the storage box for several of its optical kits. For example, the NEK01 absorptive ND filter kit uses a KT01, while the FGK01 colored glass filter kit is also supplied in this type of storage box.

The individual storage slots help minimize accidental contact between optics and provide a convenient way to keep a collection of mounted components organized. This is particularly useful in research laboratories where optics are frequently removed from and returned to an optical setup.

Unlike an optical mount or lens tube, the KT01 is intended exclusively for storage and organization. It does not provide optical positioning, adjustment, or beam-control functionality.
