Description
Pulse generators are specialized electronic instruments used in radiation detection systems to simulate detector output signals, enabling accurate system setup, calibration, and diagnostics.
Instead of relying on real radioactive sources, pulse generators produce controlled electrical pulses that replicate the signals generated by radiation interactions. This allows users to:
Verify system performance
Test electronics' functionality.
Measure noise and resolution
Calibrate energy response without radiation sources
ORTEC provides two primary models tailored to different use cases:
🔹 Model 419 Precision Pulse Generator
A high-performance solution with advanced control over pulse characteristics:
Adjustable rise time (5–250 ns)
Calibrated pulse amplitude corresponding to equivalent energy deposition
Internal or external reference voltage
Pulse rates from line frequency or ~70 Hz
🔹 Model 480 Pulser
A simple and reliable tool for basic setup and troubleshooting:
Fast rise time (<10 ns)
Wide output range (up to 10 V)
Stable operation with easy front-panel control
Ideal for routine system checks
Both models support charge output (via terminator) for compatibility with charge-sensitive preamplifiers, making them ideal for testing full spectroscopy chains.
